Sup. So i'm getting a puppy and this will be my first dog and i was wondering if it's gonna get it's name (tate) mixed up with crate cause im gonna be crate training it and saying the word crate a lot. Do you think it can tell the difference when i say it? I know this sounds stupid and all but yeah. Thanks (:
First off, I am HONORED someone asked me this.
Secondly, this is a mega non issue!! This is because, even though the pup is in a “crate,” it doesn’t have to be called that! Dottie was crate trained but we never called it a crate to her or said “go to your crate.” Instead, we referred to it as her “house.” Thus, whenever we want her to go to her “crate” or “go to bed,” we tell her to “Go to her house.” and it works just as well.
So, crate train all you want—just don’t call it a crate or anything that rhymes with where you want your baby to stay. Call it whatever you want that “You relax and behave!” area to be. Other name ideas? House, Home, Place, Box, Chest, Area, Pad, Sleep, Night…or anything else you won’t be embarrassed telling your dog to go to.
